*Admiral John Henry Godfrey was an officer of the Royal Navy and Royal Indian Navy who specialized in navigation. Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond books, based the character of M on the Admiral.
We didn't know this until after we looked it up, actually. We were sitting around brainstorming names one night when I came across it in the dedication of "Map Making - the Art That Became a Science" (one of my library free bin finds). Needless to say, Eric loved it and that is why our tiny kitten has such a prodigious name.
