Bedroom Furniture

I'm still kicking myself for not buying the dresser set we saw at Oxford Antiques a while back. I haven't found anything that I like that much, let alone something so reasonably priced. Someday, though...someday we will find another bedroom set and I will not hesitate. I will make Eric buy it and we will live happily ever after with matching dressers that are large enough to hold all of our unmentionables. Like real adults.

Right now, West Elm has a decent-looking bedroom set. It's not my favorite, but I do really like the bed frame. It's pretty fabulous.
See? Love.

And then there are the dressers. They're fine. They'd hold stuff. I just find those round nobs to be....off-putting. It makes the dresser fronts look like silly faces. Why they couldn't have another straight drawer pull is beyond me. Is that being too picky?

And then there are these similar nightstands. I like 'em.

Hopefully we'll find something soon. I'm getting tired of storing my socks in a basket on the floor.

Weekend: Type Chest Complete!

Eric has spent quite a few week nights (and weekends) revamping the type chest his aunt gave us. I really appreciate all his hard work; removing each individual type compartment ended up being a lot of work.

Our previously useless type chest now has four drawers just waiting to be jammed with my art junk. My sewing machine even has its own drawer!

Even the cat approves.

Goals

I set some goals for myself this week; not New Year's Resolutions, per say, but just some little creative practices I'd like to get better at or do more frequently. The goals themselves shall remain private, but I will probably show little snippets of projects along the way. Step one of goal two includes making icons. That's me in the top left. And my friend, Chrissie, in the bottom left. She has a lot of hair.
Wish me luck in my super secret endeavors! :)

Accessorizing: Ikea Trip

We've installed a few new things around the house since our return from Denver. I've hung some things on the wall, we now have curtains in our living room, and our den is (nearly) complete with the addition of a new, cozy rug.

We can now arrive on time for social functions! And hang out in our living room at night without our neighbors seeing us! And lay by the fire in comfort! I really, really like that rug! Progress, people! Progress!

Over the Weekend: Mountains of Snow

I love snow! Sitting by our big picture window, looking up at the rims and drinking tons of hot chocolate is my idea of the perfect day. And if there's a sexy man out there, shoveling the driveway, the view gets even better.
Me-ow!

Besides shoveling, we went for a walk, played with the cat, made a silly pillow (see below), watched football at a friend's house (Broncos, what happened?!), watched football at our house with friends (mmm, pizza), made some really good halal chicken (recipe here) and played three games of skip-bo (in which I beat Eric soundly)....

Design Sponge told me how to make these silly little pillows, and while these will probably live in a closet for a while (maybe I will let people's children drool on them when they come over?), they were really fun to make and totally helped me practice my less-than-stellar sewing skills. Funsauce.

The Admiral is Recognized

Thank you, Kinfolk Magazine, for making my cat famous! Yesterday, the very lovely (and extremely expensive) magazine, Kinfolk, compiled their favorite Instagram photos featuring their magazine. Guess what?! Mine was one of them!

You can see it here. I think it's in the sixth block of photos? It's of the admiral curled up on the sofa....

Irony is, I don't even get the magazine; I was borrowing it from Chrissie :)

Weekend Project

Eric has begun the (very controversial) task of converting my type chest into a usable piece of furniture. It will look the same on the outside, but instead of many narrow compartments that are only useful for type, it will have full, deep drawers. I'm definitely torn that we are destroying this gorgeous piece of history, but I have a feeling that it would end up on the curb if Eric weren't allowed to make this all-important change. I'm going to love the chest's usefulness when it's finished.... I just hope I don't regret it in 30 years when Antiques Roadshow comes to town.

Home from the Holidays!!!

Happy New Year!! We have been out of town for going on three (!) weeks, and while we had a fabulous time over the holidays, it is so, so good to be home.

We spent Christmas with Eric's family in Colorado, where we went on a few nice walks,

Photobucket

wandered around downtown,

Photobucket

ate lutefisk (blech!),

Photobucket

participated in the annual "feats of strength",

Photobucket

and opened far, far too many gifts. And while I didn't receive the ukulele I requested, there were some pretty amazing "Christmas flute" jam sessions that more than made up for it :)

We wasted a lot of time at ikea (glorious!),

Photobucket

but my favorite day by far had to be the one we spent at Eric's Uncle Mark's house. He has alpacas and guns and we spent a lot of time with both. So fun!

And as cute as those alpacas were, it was super good to get home to our nice warm bed and this little guy...

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed yours as much as we did ours!
